Preparation for the Thunderhead

When you’re done in the Faron Region, head to the Bird Statue and return to the Sky. There are more things we can do in Skyloft now, but if you don’t want to do them, skip ahead to the next section.

There’s not much we can really do at this point but complete a sidequest that’s now available in Skyloft. If you don’t do it now, you won’t be able to do it until later in the game, so if you’d rather get it over with and get those extra Gratitude Crystals, you can continue reading these next couple paragraphs.

When you go to the Bazaar, you’ll see that Sparrot isn’t in his normal booth where he does his fortune readings. Go to the cafe area of the Bazaar and speak to the man with the bubble over his head – he will tell you that Sparrot’s crystal ball has been broken, so he will ask you to check on him at his house, which is located on the east side ofSkyloft.

When you get to his house, you will find him in a pretty upset state, and it’s all over his broken crystal ball – without it, he can’t do any fortune readings. Of course, we’re going to be kind and agree to find a new crystal ball for him to use. Sparrot will tell you that the one he had before had been found in a building that was sitting atop a mountain peak. Fi will register the crystal ball as a dowsing option during this conversation.

Mount your Loftwing at one of the jumping points in Skyloft and head over to the Eldin region. When the landing map comes up, select the Earth Temple. While you’re using your dowsing ability, you’ll find that the signal is at its strongest to the left of the Earth Temple’s entrance.

Equip your Clawshots and latch yourself onto the target to reach the crystal ball. Fi will call assistance from Scrapper to grab it; when he does, jump back down to the ground again and return to the Sky via the Bird Statue.

When you get to Sparrot’s house, Scrapper will place the crystal ball on the table. The fortune-teller will be very pleased with you for going out of your way to find him a new crystal ball, and he will tell you that you should head by the Bazaar and find him so that he can give you a fortune-reading for a “Special prize”. He will also grant you five Gratitude Crystals.

Protector of the Skies – Levias

Return to Skyloft and head to the Knight Academy. If you go speak to Headmaster Gaebora, he won’t know much about the Triforce, however he will know a bit about the Sky Spirit, Levias. Apparently Levias knows more about the Triforce than anybody else around here, so we’re going to have to find him – he can apparently be found in the Thunderhead. He will also mention that Instructor Owlan will be able to tell you a bit more about Levias.

Head into the next room and speak to Owlan. Owlan will tell you that Levias was once a great Sky Spirit . . . but since then he has been possessed by an evil creature and now lurks within the dark confinements of the Thunderhead. Owlan will then take you outside and teach you how to perform a very advanced flying technique that Link can perform while flying on his Loftwing – the Spiral Charge.

When you begin the test, jump off the platform and mount your Loftwing. The objective of this test is to break ten of the targets that Owlan has set up throughout the sky, using the Spiral Charge to break them. And you have to do it within 120 seconds (2 minutes). If you can pass this test, Owlan will announce you as a skilled Loftwing rider and will allow you to use this move anytime you wish.

When you have successfully passed Owlan’s test, he will tell you that you should visit the Lumpy Pumpkin – the owner apparently knows a bit more about Levias. Mount your Loftwing and head to the Lumpy Pumpkin.

Speak to the owner at the Lumpy Pumpkin and he will make you a batch of pumpkin soup for you to give to Levias. Scrapper will be called by Fi to carry this big pot of soup, and then the owner will tell you where to drop off the soup – on an island with a rainbow. Head back out and mount your Loftwing again so you can head to the Thunderhead.

When you make it to the Thunderhead, head over to the small island that has a big rainbow stretched overtop it. When Scrapper sets the pumpkin soup down, Levias will appear from the depths of the Thunderhead.

Ocular Parasite Bilocyte (Boss)

Jump off the island onto your Loftwing and start to fly towards Levias. You’ll see that he has four long tentacles flowing from his body, each one with an eyeball growing from the end of it. Carefully fly over and strike out one of the eyes with a Spiral Charge. Be weary of the other enemies that are flying around here as you take out the other eyes with Spiral Charges.

Once you have taken out all the eyes, fly over Levias and jump off your Loftwing so that you land on Levias’ back. When you’ve safely landed, you will begin a second part to this battle where you take on the real enemy – Bylocyte.

When you start the battle with him, he will shoot an acid-like substance at you, but you can easily knock it back at him with a strike from your sword. We’ll have to knock out those wings on him, so when he shoots his acid blobs, strike it with the left-to-right direction of your sword to strike the blob in the direction of the wing on your right; to strike the wing on your left, swing your sword from right-to-left when striking the acid blob.

When you manage to get its wings off, the second phase of this battle will begin, in which Bilocyte will shoot acid blobs at you while moving its head around frequently. He will move his head in three directions – the right, the left, and the center. When he launches acid blobs at you, you will have to strike the blobs in the direction of where his head is sitting at that point in time. If Bilocyte happens to be in the center, just deliver an uppercut attack to launch the blob forward. When you hit its eye with the blob, you will get an opening chance to run up and strike its eye as many times as you can before he rears back and starts attacking again. Keep doing this until you defeat Bilocyte.

After the battle, Levias will be back to his normal self and the Thunderhead will clear up to become a much brighter place. Levias will thank you for saving him, and agrees to help you find the Triforce. However, to get to where the Triforce is located, we have to learn the Song of the Hero. When we find the first three parts of the song, Levias will teach us the final part.

While we’re here in the Thunderhead, let’s go ahead and check out Bug Rock for a new mini-game; we can also do a new sidequest, which will actually snag us a Piece of Heart. If you don’t want to do this, skip ahead to Chapter 17.

When you get to Bug Rock, you will meet Stritch, and he will offer to let you play his mini-game, which will reward you with treasure or rupees if you win. Although, there is no major award you can get just yet.

Now that Bug Rock is accessible, we can do Beedle’s Sidequest. Head to Skyloft and enter his Airshop to see that there is an event bubble above his head. When you speak to him, he will tell you to speak to him that same night about it. Sleep in the bed in the Airshop to make it nighttime.

When you wake up on Beedle’s Island, speak to him by the campfire and he will tell you that he lost his Horned Colossus Beetle, including the cage. Agree to help him find his beloved pet.

Head back inside the Airshop and sleep in the bed until daytime. Mount your Loftwing and head back into the Thunderhead. Head over to Bug Rock and speak to Stritch – he will be really excited over the fact that he found an extremely rare insect, which just happens to be the Horned Colossus Beetle that Beedle lost. Stritch will tell you that you will only get the beetle back if you can complete his mini-game. You will have to collect 10 of Stritch’s preferred bugs within a time limit of 3 minutes.

When you have completed the mini-game, Stritch will stay true to his word and give you the Horned Colossus Beetle. Mount your Loftwing again and head back to Skyloft. When you speak to Beedle in his Airshop, he will tell you to visit him again at night, so go ahead and sleep in the bed in the Airshop.

Upon speaking to Beedle on Beedle Island at night, he will be so grateful for you for finding his beetle and will reward you with a half-price discount on any item of your choosing at the Airshop, as well as 5 Gratitude Crystals.

Sleep in the bed in the Airshop until the next day. Now that we have that half-off discount, you can purchase the Piece of Heart for 800 Rupees instead of the regular 1600.

If you’ve been completing all the sidequests up to this point as well as collecting the individual crystals, you should have 70 Gratitude Crystals. You can now claim your next prize from Batreaux – two Gold Rupees.

The next three areas can be done in the order of your choosing, so Chapters 17, 18, and 19 can be done in any order that you please – it makes no difference what order you do them in.
