How to validate a NJ TRANSIT ticket? ›

Simply present your ticket face up, just below the screen, at the on-board validator near the entrance of your bus. Our system swiftly reads and verifies your ticket in seconds, allowing for a fast, smooth boarding process. Valid tickets or passes will display a green indicator with “Have A Nice Trip'' on the display.

Buying tickets

Like all train companies*, you must buy a ticket before you board, or risk getting a penalty fare. Only undiscounted Anytime fares will be available from the conductor** - note that these are more expensive than purchasing before you travel.

Activate ticket

Activating your ticket is irreversible, once it's been activated it cannot be changed, refunded or moved so we recommend you only activate it just before boarding. Tickets should not be activated before 04.30 am on the day of travel, unless your train leaves before then.
